The Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo is currently closed for renovation and revitalisation to protect the current museum’s portfolio of objects and to transform it into a world-class museum, with enhanced exhibition, learning, and creative spaces.
INSW is seeking calls for Expressions of Interest to enter a contract to conduct demolition, services termination, design, construction, and commissioning work for the Powerhouse Ultimo Revitalisation project.
The project objectives are to:
- Create dynamic exhibition spaces allowing the museum to create and present high quality, internationally leading museum exhibitions.
- Deliver new public domain spaces.
- Establish one central, intuitive, and accessible visitor circulator system to access exhibition, program, and education spaces.
- Reorientate the museum’s entrance to improve access to/from the light rail at darling square.
- Provide a newly activated façade housing creative industries.
- Separate front-of-house and back-of-house operations from visitor areas.
- Create dedicated learning spaces for the powerhouses’ educational programs.
- Conserve the heritage listed original power station and post office buildings.
The project scope is made up of two contracts: Early Works and Main Works.
The scope for Early Works includes:
- Services decoupling
- Demolition works
The scope for Main Works includes:
- New Museum Entrance
- Revitalisation to heritage listed buildings
- Completion of renewal of exhibition spaces and removal of internal mezzanines
- Introduction of new green spaces
- New below-ground loading dock and back of house space
To be considered for this RFT, the respondents must be a pre-qualified contractor for the NSW Government’s construction services valued over $9 million and pre-qualified for work over $150 million.
INSW is offering a site walk for all interested recipients. This will be held on the 3rd and 4th of June 2024. There is also an Industry briefing on the 5th of June.
The closing time and date for responses is 21 June 2024.
