This Week’s Highlight: Diet and Sustainability Scoping Reviews for Dietary Guidelines Update

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is Australia’s leading expert body supporting health and medical research. It funds research, develops health advice, and promotes the translation of scientific findings into better health outcomes. The NHMRC plays a critical role in ensuring Australians have access to evidence-based dietary guidelines that support public health and nutrition.

The NHMRC, via a Request for Tender (RFT), is seeking proposals to conduct four scoping reviews to inform the revision of the Australian Dietary Guidelines. These reviews will focus on two key areas:

  1. Diet and the development of sarcopenia or neurocognitive conditions in older adults: This area explores the relationship between protein-rich foods and the development of sarcopenia and neurocognitive conditions in older adults.
  2. Sustainability aspects of different dietary patterns within the Australian context: This area will examine the environmental impact of consuming different dietary patterns, protein-rich foods, and ultra-processed foods (UPFs) in Australia, as well as the implications of different dietary patterns on socio-cultural acceptability, accessibility, equity, cost, and affordability of food in Australia.

Tenderers will be evaluated on compliance with content and format requirements, personnel qualifications, and confidentiality obligations. Proposals must include expertise in human nutrition, research methodology, and systematic and scoping reviews of observational data.

Additional Requirements:

  • If a scoping review identifies the need for a full systematic review, the supplier may be asked to quote for this additional work.
  • NHMRC will provide a list of studies collected via a public call for evidence, which suppliers will need to assess for eligibility.

The contract will have an initial term of nine months, with the possibility of two three-month extensions.

The closing time and date for responses will remain open until the 24th of March 2025.
