This Week’s Highlight: Antarctic Helicopter Services

The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD), a division of the Department of Climate, Change, Energy, The Environment, and Water, is responsible for delivering Australia’s Antarctic Program. The AAD supports scientific research, logistics, and environmental management in Antarctica and Macquarie Island, advancing Australia’s leadership in science and international cooperation.

The AAD is seeking suppliers to provide helicopter services to support logistical and scientific research across the Antarctic region and Macquarie Island. This Request for Tender calls for reliable and modern helicopter capacity to operate during the summer season, meeting the unique challenges of the harsh environment of the Antarctic region.

These aircraft must be able to operate in extreme conditions, including temperatures as low as -35 degrees Celsius, high winds, remote terrains, and they must be capable of day Visual Meteorological Conditions flights.

The contract will have an initial term of seven years, commencing on 30 June 2025, with the possibility of a five-year extension. A two-year transition phase will be included to ensure readiness for full operations by July 2027.

Applicants will be evaluated on their:

  • Technical capability (40%),

  • Experience plans (20%)

An industry briefing is planned for February 2025, held online.
