Research requires specific usually niche expertise. It is for this reason that research tasks are often outsourced by government to companies or organisations who specialise in the area of expertise being sought. A research task is usually the beginning of a longer procurement process and usually seeks to inform the next steps for a government department. The Department of Health quite often seeks tenders on a variety of topics, as seen this week with two RFTs issued requiring studies on both general male health and indigenous health. Various departments seek broader market research including customer satisfaction surveys (see Department of Human Services below) which either assess the quality of service offered or the demographics of their customer base. Research tasks can also review a department’s internal processes as seen in the Department of Agriculture’s RFT seeking a review of QA schemes as applied to Agvet Chemical regulation.
