The Australian War Memorial, based in Canberra ACT, is Australia’s national memorial to the members of its armed forces and supporting organisations who have died or participated in wars involving the Commonwealth of Australia. In 2018 the Australian Government provided funding for the Australian War Memorial Development Project with funding of $498.7 million allocated over a nine year period commencing in the 2019/20 financial year to improve the capacity for coverage of conflicts, operations and a broader description of war as well as improve circulation space and accessibility. Early this year the Parliamentary Works Committee Approval was received to commence work on the project. As a result, this week sees four new RFTs relating to Early Works Packages (‘EWP’) to prepare the site for upcoming development. The main aim of the EWP is to enable bulk excavation in advance of the Main Works Packages and will involve the Southern Entrance and Main Building, C.E.W. Bean Building Extension and Central Energy Plant, Anzac Hall and Glazed Link and the Main Building Refurbishment.
The four RFTs aim to identify the Tenderer that offers the best value for money response for:-
1) EWP1 Project Perimeter Hoardings Contractor for the provision of undertaking the design, construction and maintenance of site wide hoardings and graphics for the Project.
2) EWP2 Services Relocation and Ancillary Works Contractor for the provision of undertaking Service Capping and Relocations and Ancillary Works for the Project to enable demolition and bulk excavation
3) EWP3 Demolition Contractor for Anzac Hall for the provision of undertaking the demolition of Anzac Hall at the Memorial
4) EWP4 Civil Works and Bulk Excavation Contractor for the provision of undertaking civil works, earth retention works and bulk excavation across 3 work sites.
The Memorial will hold one Industry Briefing covering the scope of works for all four of the Early Works Packages. This is to ensure that Tenderers have a thorough understanding of the complexities and interdependencies that the Early Works Packages have with each other in relation to staging and program. The industry briefing will be held from 10 – 11am Tuesday, 16 March 2021 at the Memorial Theatre, Main Building, Australian War Memorial and registration is required. Subject to the approval process, major early works (1,2,3) are aimed to commence between June and August 2021 with package 4 to commence as soon as practicable. The expectation is that works will be underway concurrently while minimising disruption to the Memorial.
The Closing Date for the RFTs is 14th April 2021.
