On 31 March 2021, Prime Minister, Scott Morrison announced the acceleration of a Sovereign Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordinance (GWEO) Enterprise to enhance Australia’s self-reliance and supply chain resilience. The plan to acheive this capability is based on a series of short, medium and long term goals that will see both a workforce and industry capability established and boosted. Just last month Raytheon and Lockhead Martin were announced as strategic partners for the GWEO enterprise and Naval Guided Weapons Maintenance Facility was opened at Orchard Hills, Sydney. This week we look at yet another building block to establishing the enterprise, with the release of a Request for Tender (RFT) to establish a Pilot Workforce for the GWEO Enterprise.
This RFT seeks 13 contractors, to be based at DSTG Edinburgh, South Australia to support the current workforce until the Enterprise business model is implemented. The Defence Science & Technology Group (DSTG) will be delivering the Research and Development (R&D) element of the Enterprise as well as enabling outcomes across the GWEO capability lifecycle. This procurement action is part of the DSTG response to build capability and capacity to deliver outcomes. These resources are a temporary and low-risk measure to ensure that DSTG can effectively support the GWEO Enterprise while detailed requirements and plans for the GWEO Innovation Hub are developed. Specifically the skill sets being sought are:
a. Data Management & Security x 1 Position
b. Explosive Management System (XMS) Policy Development Officer x 1 Position
c. Firing Officer x 1 Position
d. Laboratory Technician – Explosive Ordnance Processing x 2 Positions
e. Laboratory Technician – Mechanical Testing and Characterisation x 1 Position
f. Laboratory Technician – Chemical Analysis x 1 Position
g. Industrial Radiographer x 1 Position
h. Laboratory Technician – Explosive Ordnance Machining x 1 Position

j. Trials Support Officers x 2 Positions

All positions are expected to work full time and on site with a Contract expected commencement date of 26 Jun 22. This RFT closes on 26 May.
