Defence tenders are common and are wide ranging in subject matter, however this year has seen significant activity in the health space. Earlier this year the pharmaceutical supply contract was awarded, the deployable health facility RFT was released, and the related health knowledge management procurement was introduced via industry brief. This week sees the invitation for Expressions of Interest (EOI) released for the Next Generation Health Services, which seeks to improve the delivery of medical services to the ADF. Earlier this year Defence went to market seeking information from industry that would inform the development of an RFT. This EOI stage allows Defence to shortlist a number of suitable companies for a further invitation to tender. The EOI closes 6 Oct and it is important to note that with a four week bid preparation time, the focus of the EOI should be proof of company capability, not so much on pricing.
Also from Defence is an RFT seeking Physiotherapist and Exercise Physiologist services to reduce Musculoskeletal (MSK) neck and back injury risk in Air Combat Group aircrew. Defence is seeking up to 6 physiotherapists at various RAAF bases across Australia. This RFT ends 5 Oct 17, and offers an initial 18mth contract.
Moving away from Defence health, to National health programs: an RFT seeking the supply of 8 vaccines as part of the National Immunisation Program was also released this week and closes on 16 Oct 17. Tenderers can supply either one or more of the requested vaccines and have the opportunity for a 7 year supply contract. The Department of Health is also seeking to improve its product sourcing processes for the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) and has issued a notice advising of the imminent release of the RFT. An industry brief has already been held for this opportunity, however the information provided at the brief will be made available with the release of the RFT.
