As noted in previous weeks, government has increased its industry consultation in an effort to improve the tendering process and increase the chances of achieving the actual product or service that it requires. This week in particular we see several efforts by Defence to do the same, calling for industry input, providing early information and consulting with industry through one on one sessions.
Over the last year or two, Australian Industry Capability (AIC) has increased in importance which in turn has meant greater emphasis on AIC plans in tenders. To that end, as a precurser to the release of the LAND 125 Ph4 -Supply of Army Field Equipment Request For Tender (RFT), an AIC program workshop is being held to work through the expectations of this document.
Also in the Army space, Defence will be holding an Industry Brief to provide updates on LAND 159 Small Arms Replacement and LAND 4108 Direct Fire Support weapons as a follow on from a recent Request for Information (RFI). Defence is hoping to indentify potential prime contractors and/or integrators for the planned procurement with whom it can further develop the requirement.
In the Aerospace domain, Defence is seeking information on Chinook Crashworthy Aircrewman Seating with an RFI. This is again an opportunity for Defence to obtain industry expertise and assess the market capability for a feasible solution.
A further consultation opportunity is being held with industry regarding the Enhanced Defence High Frequency Communication System. This is an all day session commencing with an industry brief, followed by individual company consultations, and ending with a site visit. Two further site visits are being held on the following two days. This session is again aimed at gathering information to determine industry capability and capacity to provide the requirement.
All these opportunities while not mandatory should not be missed if they are within your area of expertise. They allow you to remain informed about the procurement opportunity but more importantly give you the chance to influence the final outcome as an industry expert – this is a mutually beneficial result.
