Procurement activity against the long awaited Western Sydney Airport has began. This week, a call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) has been released for Project Management and Technical Support services by the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development. For a project in which the government is investing $5.3 billion, its fair to say the project management aspects will be significant and therefore profitable! The Western Sydney Airport is planned to begin operations in 2026 and this contract has the potential to run for nine years.
This EOI is the first of a two stage process, where the next stage is an RFT issued only to those shortlisted from the EOI. It is expected that only five companies will be shortlisted, therefore EOI submissions are not to be taken lightly if you are to make the most of this opportunity. EOI’s are due by the 1 Sep 17, and are to be emailed directly to the Western Sydney Unit (WSU) of the Department as opposed to being uploaded to Austender.
As with all EOIs the purpose is to identify those companies with the capability and capacity to undertake the work – so a focus on previous experience in similar roles (ie PM for infrastructure projects valued at greater than $1 billion) is vital to this submission. The Department is also looking at the capacity to deliver on a nine year contract and will require an office presence in Canberra.
Note – if you are successful, this work will potentially preclude a company from bidding on any advisory work to WSU as the project develops. The RFT is expected to be released 12 Sep 17 with a contract signature date of 18 Oct 17.
