While national tendering opportunities in building and construction dwindled as the financial year drew to a close, the new financial year has brought on a new batch of opportunities. As is usually the case, the majority of new opportunities in this space are part of Defence’s estate reform program, a rolling plan of upgrades to Defence establishments across the country. However the Australian National Maritime Museum is also seeking to establish a new maintenance store and a safety system for roof access while Defence Housing has also issued an opportunity for the upgrade of four houses in Queensland.
The Defence Estate Requests for Tender (RFT) offer opportunites across the country in most states, with the majority this week being undertaken in NSW. Also of note is the Invitation to Register Interest for a Design Services Contract at Swartz Barracks in Queensland which has just been extended to 14th August. As with all Defence establishment work, there are a few aspects to be mindful of when preparing your tender:
– Security clearances for staff and impact of base access requirements
– Heritage implications on building refurbishments
– Operational requirements of the base
– Defence tailored contracting template
Most opportunities will have an associated site visit and it’s important to take note when these are compulsory to attend. Even in the situations when an industry brief is not compulsory, it is highly recommended that you attend to ensure familiarity with the site.
