In September 2021, the federal government launched a $30 million project to design a world-leading manufacturing facility for the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation’s (ANSTO’s) Lucas Heights amenity in Sydney.
Funding for the concept design of the proposed nuclear medicine home includes a technology demonstration facility (TDF), to be located within an existing ANSTO building at Lucas Heights.
Nuclear medicine is an essential part of an advanced healthcare system and ANSTO delivers related specialised advice, scientific services, and products to government, industry, academia, and other research organisations.
Despite nearing the end of its life, Lucas Heights produces about 80 per cent of nuclear medicine isotopes used to fight diseases such as cancer. To safeguard Australia’s sovereign capability to produce and supply vital nuclear medicines, the government supports replacing the current setup with a modern radiopharmaceutical production and manufacturing facility.
This Expression of Interest seeks architectural engineering consultants capable of providing the balance of plant concept design, detailed design, and IFC, for building and infrastructure works related to the TDF. In complying with ANSTO’s requirements, the consultant will work closely with ANSTO’s safety and reliability team and subject matter experts.
ANSTO will preference tenderers with experience in the design of advanced laboratory and/or pharmaceutical facilities – especially in Australia – and an understanding of the regulatory approvals. Experience in the design of hazardous material handling and transportation is an advantage.
The scope excludes design of:
· hot cells
· nuclear process/testing such as in-cell equipment
· nuclear materials handling.
There will be no industry briefing. ANSTO will supply specific scope details to shortlisted tenderers and in its RFT.
The indicative timeframe is:
1. Shortlist – May 2023
2. Sign the ANSTO Non-Disclosure Agreement
3. Site visit and industry briefing to shortlisted tenderers – May/June 2023
4. Shortlisted tenderers confirm participation – May 2023
5. Request for Tender (RFT) issued – June 2023
6. Award contract – mid-2023.
The closing time and date for responses is 4pm ACT local time on 15 May 2023.
