As the new Financial Year begins, government tendering activity begins to ramp up again as budgets are renewed and grand plans are placed for the year ahead. While the Defence Estate upgrade program is a rolling activity, the last few weeks have seen an increase in Approaches to Market with opportunities Australia wide. The majority are for building refurbishment work, however there is also the requirement for wharf work, pumps and fuel installations, sporting fields and carparks and security upgrades. Defence Estate work varies in size and complexity, so is worth keeping an eye out for the right opportunity that matches your company’s skill set.
Being Defence, there are a few aspects that you need to be mindful of when approaching a tender. These are detailed further here: Defence Estate Tenders. However in brief be sure to consider these aspects both in tender preparation and in your tender write up:
– Do you have the required security clearances for staff and are you aware of the impact of base access requirements?
– Are there any heritage implications on building refurbishments and are you experienced in dealing with these aspects?
– Are you aware of the Defence operational requirements of the base and the impact this may have on your schedule?
– Have you reviewed the Defence tailored contracting template and are you willing to comply?
Most opportunities will have an associated site visit and it is important to take note if these are compulsory to attend. Even in the situations when an industry brief is not compulsory, it is highly recommended that you attend to ensure familiarity with the site.
