The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) is Australia’s national weather, climate and water agency, providing a wide range of products and services to support informed decision-making by governments, emergency services, industry and the community. BoM frequently issues opportunities to market that range from a variety of scientific equipment, goods and services. This week we look at the latest Request for Tender (RFT) issued by BoM which seeks the supply, and ongoing maintenance and support of a new Tsunami Threat Assessment and Warning Tool to replace the Bureau’s existing tool that assesses tsunami threats and supports the issuing of tsunami warnings. BoM is seeking a Commercial off the Shelf solution with plugins to existing Bureau applications. The requirements stems from a need to improve the security, stability and resilience of the current software, which was developed in-house and has been in operation since 2004.
In addition to providing the software solution, the tenderer will also be required to offer level 3 software support and ongoing management of the licenced software including updates and security patches. Level 1 and level 2 support will be undertaken by inhouse staff, as such the tenderer will also be required to provide demonstration and training activities supported by documentation to ensure a smooth handover.
It is important to note that when organsiation seek a COTS soultion, their aim os to minimise risk and maximise the ongoing availability of the solution. As such, tenderers should be offering proven solutions with similar operating conditions. The contract is expected to commence in July this year with a 2 year term. The closing Date for the RFT is 7th May 21.
