The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is responsible for Australia’s presence and activities in the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Southern Ocean. As part of its duties, the Division coordinates and delivers the Australian Antarctic Program under which Australian Antarctic expeditioners are trained and equipped before heading south to Antarctica or sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island.
This week we look at the recruitment opportunity that supplies this program with its staff. The Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment, as represented by the AAD seeks to engage the Services of a Supplier for the Recruitment and selection of Expeditioners. Services are required to assist in the design, delivery and/or coordination of key elements of the Expeditioner Recruitment Process for the 2022/23 season, with options to extend for an additional three one-year periods.
The Expeditioner cohort consists of around 25 – 30 roles including:
Field Training Officer, Station Supply Officer, Chef, Watercraft Operator, Medical Practitioner, Communications Operator, Communications Rigger, Information Technology Officer, Station Communications Technical Officer, Boilermaker Welder, Building Services Supervisor, Carpenter. Electrician / Instrument Electrician, Engineering Services Supervisor, Fitter and Turner, Plumber, Refrigeration Mechanic, Rigger, Concreter, Mechanical Services Balancing Technician, Expedition Mechanic, Station Mechanical Supervisor, Station Plant Operator, Electronics Engineer, Aerodrome Camp Support Officer, Aerodrome Plant Operator, Aircraft Ground Support Officer, Deputy Aerodrome Manager, Aerodrome Manager. Through the selection process AAD are seeking to appoint 150 -200 Expeditioners.

The Contract is estimated to commence no later than September 2021 with recruitment for the first year aimed to commence December 2021 and complete by July 2022.
