Looking across this weeks ICT tenders, they go across four different departments and span everything from data storage, audio visual upgrades to VOIP capabilities and communications. This is the norm, which can make it difficult for ICT companies, particularly SMEs to find tenders suited to their capabilities. Unlike defence or health requirements which are usually sought by one department, ICT is in the administration of every department and underlies the operations of most. So requirements will be for all manner of communications, hardware and software, off the shelf and custom built, training aids, audio visual capability etc.
As a tenderer, you will have subscribed to various categories for your Austender alerts, however since ICT is so broad and applies to so many departments, the categories are prone to interpretation. Another point of note is that the line between communications requirements and IT requirements is becoming blurred, so again the category chosen for a particular RFT may not exactly align with the requirement. RFT titles can also be misleading, so its worth reading on a bit further into the description of the requirement to see if it applies to you. Ensure that you subscribe to a wide range of categories to make sure you don’t miss out on an opportunity.
